Can't I just eat yogurt to get my probiotic serving?
Very few yogurts contain cultures that meet the definition of a probiotic. The US FDA requires that products labeled as a yogurt include live cultures of Lactobacillus bulgarius and Streptococcus thermophilus. However, neither Lactobacillus bulgarius or Streptococcus thermophilus have been shown to survive the passage through the stomach acids in order to colonize the intestine in any significant numbers. Therefore they do not a probiotic effect.
Additionally, the consumption of dairy is not advised for many people who are experiencing digestive imbalances. GoodBelly on the other hand is 100% dairy-free, soy-free and wheat-free.
GoodBelly is available at many natural food and grocery stores, including Whole Foods.
