Reiki is a Powerful System of Healing

Reiki is an ancient healing method that has been performed in Tibet for thousands of years. It is different from many other natural healing methods because it relies solely on the universal energy or life force that is guided in to the patient through simple touch or the placing of hands. The Reiki we all know today is called Ursui Reiki, and it was actually devised in the late 19th century by a Japanese doctor called Mikao Ursui. Dr Ursui spent 14 years researching Tibetan Buddhism and many other Eastern Philosophies to perfect his methods, which have now spawned at least 1000 different branches of Reiki here in the west, mostly within the last 20 years. This system of healing has been shown to have many powerful effects.

In Reiki a practitioner is nothing more than a channel that connects to and then guides the universal energy down through his/her hands and in to the patient. Practitioners can sense energy imbalances as they place their hands on the 12 positions most commonly used within Reiki healing: there are four on the head, four on the back and four on the front. When all of these places have been touched by the guiding hand it is then that the body's balance of energy is restored. The whole thought behind Reiki is that everyone is capable of applying the healing touch. Even children can learn to heal this way; it is just a case of becoming aware of the transmission process that can be taught by any Reiki Master.

While many people dismiss Reiki's healing potential the method is growing in popularity because it is 100% natural and can be used in conjunction with any other healing method, including medication. Reiki practitioners and patients both claim that Reiki promotes natural healing, stimulates the immune system, balances energies in the body, helps people overcome emotional problems and eases pain. They even say that it can be transmitted over distances and through time. They also use it to heal their beloved pets and themselves. But most traditional practitioners claim that it is an open road towards truth, enlightenment, and spiritual freedom.

One of the most amazing things is that Reiki is now offered in most cancer wards. This is because it seems to help sufferers overcome the effects of chemotherapy. There is no actual proof that this is the case and many people feel the relaxing effects of Reiki are nothing more than a placebo. Despite this many patients rely totally on it to get them through the ordeal.
